Fun and really gorgeous canyoning (river tracing) trip. The start is a little bit boring, you will park your bike near the GPS and find your way into the water and start walking upstream. There are plenty of small trails that allow for this, depending on how far back you start the first 300-500m might be a bit boring. It gets better quick though, y ... ou'll find a gorge to swim in and a wonderful natural waterslide. As hard as we tried it doesn't seem possible to hurt yourself on the slide so go ahead and have fun some. After the waterslide, you'll work your way up to some really nice areas till you reach the final waterfall which has a pool in front of it great for swimming and is quite the site its self. Fortunately, the whole thing doesn't take very long and is quite scenic as you will need to go back the way you came.
The water is clean. Many fish. A good place for camping. Transportation: scooter, car
This is a really really easy trace as far as there not being any real difficult climbs or such along the way. I would recommend this place to beginners as it's easy to access and you shouldn't have any issues with it. It is one of the more accessible outdoor adventures in Taiwan. As it's not too far away from society I wouldn't drink the water. At c ... ertain points, you may find people BBQing. There are a few places where the water is deep enough to swim if you want. As such if you can't swim be prepared to deal with them. There is also a point further upstream you can start this trace if you want it to take a little longer located at 25.205517,121.520577. Personally, I liked the second half of the trace more but that's up to you.
Beautiful trace with deep pools and stunning canyons. The Golden Grotto itself is a 20min walk up a side stream after a 3-4 hour walk up the Sanzhan River. Right before the grotto there are a couple of deep pools to swim across and a couple of waterfalls to climb (but they seem to always have ropes installed). It's quite a popular trace with several ... parties going up per day on the weekends. It was not difficult, but requires a bit of fitness. You can even get there by public transport. I took the train there and back and was able to walk from Jingmei station to the trace entry point without much trouble. There are a couple of little shops in the village, but food is scarce. Make sure you supply before you go.
You can slide down Dashimen Waterfall(大石門瀑布) and its neighboring small waterfall to their pools. Be careful for the conditions of current. Great place for camping for there is a lot of ground along the shore.
