12 tall waterfalls ranging from 3 to 10 meters in the mainstream and its left fork. 6 smaller waterfalls. Quite a lot pools in this river at the bottom of the waterfalls. Difficulty: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (4/5) https://inprovefield28.wixsite.com/rivertraceintaiwan/post/scale-of-review-and-level-of-difficulty
A long way to go but definitely worth it. The whole trip is gorgeous and at the end, you are rewarded with a cliffside hot spring that looks down onto the river. Many people do this as a two-day trip and camp near the hot spring. Personally did it in a day but it's a good 10+ hour round trip so you'll need to start early. The starting GPS location ... will get on to a trail that you can take a scooter along almost right to the river. Follow upstream to the ending GPS location and look for the hot spring in the cliff. There are tails along the right side of the stream at certain points you can use to move a little faster if you want. It is also worth noting that there is a beehive at the back of the hot spring. They are honey bees though and shouldn't bother you if you don't bother them.
Really fun trace. Lots of nice deep pools to swim in and waterfalls to enjoy. You'll notice a fairly distinct branching of the river not long after you start. I suggest following the side branch (right-hand side) for a bit and hitting up the waterfall it has to offer. They the best ones you'll find. Once the terrian gets flat double back and head up ... the main branch towards the ending GPS location. You will be able to get out of the water there and walk back along the highway.

March 2023 Update from The Map Room's expedition there: The landslide lake and waterfall no longer exist. The new Sanfensuo Hot Spring, along the riverside, is hot, big and wonderful! The old Sanfensuo Hot Spring (on the hillside) still exists, but it's a nasty mess and not really worth bothering with as long as the new one is there. OLDER INFO: ... Jianianduan (Bunun: Kanitovan) used to be the home of some Bunun people. But now no one inhabits there. Jianianduan Hot Spring has its name because it is located in Jianianduan. One way is 16km. The water is the most difficult from Sunhai Bridge(starting point) to the fork of Danda River and Junda River because the two rivers merge and bring abundant water. On the way to Jianianduan Hot Spring, you will pass Sanfensuo Hot Spring(23.74605,121.06948), whose hot spring source is on mountainside. Second half of the river tracing is in gorge and water is again strong. Proper wading technique is necessary. And some bouldering technique is also important. The hot spring is only available in dry seasons in Taiwan.
